Look, in a dense, stop-and-go neighborhood some of us just don’t want to have to be switching gears all the time.

Was once a beautiful home. Siding is trashed. Roof probably gone. Deck could be dry rotted at best.
In addition, foundation issues? This pillar appears to curve.

Back in the day the porch would have been built on shallow piers, separate from the house's actual foundation. Honestly though, it looks like the entire house has settled down a couple inches on the right side. Almost certainly, it's not a fixer-uoper, but rather a knocker-downer.

Don’t let my wife see this. She loves old houses with “character”.

I actually looked at this house after it was listed at $110k. The pictures were super deceiving and as soon as I pulled up I told the agent I wasn’t interested. It was originally listed at $160k and kept dropping the price. The front porch was literally falling apart, hadn’t been painted in decades, and the roof probably held out about half the water that hit it. The worst part is the house was leaning. At the front the right side was about 4 inches higher than the left but if you went all the way to the back it was more like a foot. Nothing in the house was level or could be. It was a rental since at least the 80s. Since I saw it the listing is updated. It looks like it was painted, porch somewhat fixed, and maybe a roof put on. No interior shots because it was trashed when I was there and probably not fixed since. Also, while there are a few of the same angle shots, none show the sloping/falling exterior wall. I said the same exact thing to the agent about it being a knocker downer. He said he wouldn’t pay $30k for the lot, let alone $110k they were asking. Shit neighborhood. Unfortunately, in this town they passed a law that any home over 50 years old is historical and can’t be taken down without jumping through massive hoops, even if the shit is literally falling down.

You can tell her about the tranny issue. I’m sure she’ll understand.

Maybe you were cooking some steamed hams and suddenly, you saw the Aurora Borealis .

Back in 2006, I had just started teaching, and was hoping to buy something before prices got even more crazy. I couldn’t find anything I could afford. Out of desperation, I looked at a similar size, similar condition house that was also in a shit neighborhood. It was listed at something like $90k, when condos in the area I was working were going for about double that. I noooooped the hell out of there.
I rented a cheap apartment in a nice area , and watched the world burn around me. That particular house kept getting the price slashed. I saw the price of the house drop to $30k ultimately. Then somebody knocked the house down and listed the lot for $13k. Still too much.

This area will likely be one of the next upcoming areas because all the other nearby popular areas have skyrocketed in price. I was desperate for housing so it’s the only reason I considered the area. This is still lipstick on a rotting pig carcass though. The bigger problem (outside of condition and asking price) is the lot is so tiny, basically just the house and driveway, you can’t tear and build better. Has to still be a tiny house in a crappy neighborhood.

I can’t imagine any mortgage company approving a loan on a house with such a clearly FUBARED foundation ... but stranger things have happened.

Well, I can’t imagine a mortgage lender lending over 100k for this house to begin with. Usually Eillow over estimates a home’s value. This guy has it listed nearly $40k over their estimate. I should swing by today and get a better picture of the wall curving.

I would be interested to see that.
